We’re about one month away to perhaps the most exciting regional event of the year, the R7 Conference! It will be held at the Embassy Suites in Maryland on the weekend of November 8-10. The bulk of programming will be on Saturday with some panels and workshops held on Sunday. Friday evening will be the RC mixer hosted by RC Wayne.The Embassy Suites is in Hunt Valley, right across the street from the Hunt Valley Inn, home to Shore Leave.Room rates are $129 per night (sleeps 4) and $149 per night (sleeps 6). We do not have to purchase any minimum number of rooms. The USS Accord took point on a regional fall tradition destination, Watkins Glen, a picturesque location and a wonderful retreat for nature and fellowship.The fall has also brought us the return of familiar TV shows like Supernatural, Arrow, Haven and some new shows like Agents of SHIELD (picking up from the smash hit movie Marvel’s The Avengers) and Sleepy Hollow. American Horror in Horror Story: The Coven, and The Walking Dead are returning and I know many of you are awaiting the thunderous return of Marvel’s hammer hurling Avenger, “Thor: The Dark World” coming to theaters in November.I look forward to seeing many of you at the conference next month. Real life has tossed me more than a loop in recent months and I can’t even recall when I posted the last Sub-Space Chatter but now it will return to a regular schedule (well at least I hope so).REGION 7 CONFERENCE 2013 COMING SOON!RC Rear Admiral Wayne L.Augustson reported to the 7th Fleet this week that more details about this year's R7 Conference is forthcoming. “The contract has been signed with the Embassy Suites hotel (across from the Hunt Valley) Maryland and our Chief of Staff, Jeff Victor, will give all the necessary details. Bob and I are working on programming and we'll also have an update,'' Wayne said.STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS A HIT AT THEATERS AND FOR STARFLEETThe USS Avenger, USS Challenger,USS Justice, USS Inferno, USS Serling, and USS Susquehannock were among the chapters in R7 that manned a promotion table for Star Trek: Into Darkness onthe weekend of May 17. The film provided a great opportunity to gain publicity for Starfleet, their chapter and more awareness of both to the local public. Other chapters found other ways to make their presence known.The film itself has proven popular with the audience and while a few local Fleeters have expressed a dislike of the altered timeline, the majority of SF members of the 7th Fleet have expressed not only their enjoyment of the film but that they have seen it multiple times in multiple formats, 2-D, 3-D and I-Max.TREK OLYMPICS RETURNSA big event in the Maryland Sector returned during the same weekend of ST: Into Darkness release weekend, the Trek Olympics and several chapters came out to participate. Speaking of Sy Fy, Warehouse 13 will mark its last season next year but is continuing on for now. We have Man of Steel flying into theaters in June and The Lone Ranger and Tonto galloping into theaters in July with Thor getting hammered in November. My friends,We will have 'official' official news regarding this year's Region 7 Conference very soon. Our very own Chief of Staff Jeff Victor is in final negotiations with the hotel we have chosen and we should have word soon (ie a contract).Thus far, I can say this:1. The dates of this year's conference will be November 8-10. The bulk of programming will be on Saturday and Sunday, as it was last year. Friday evening will be the RC mixer hosted by yours truly.2. That way they are still available to hand out in a targeted manner to prospective members (e.g. all the correy chapter fliers, or all the fliers from NJ, or the one particular flier for the chapter that was talking to this person in the elevator, etc). If your chapter has new fliers since Shore Leave, bring me some of the new fliers. I don't need a TON... 15 or 20 at a time is enough.Please note that I'm not able to finance making copies for you, so I can't just take electronic files. However, if you want to email me a file and send me the money to cover the photocopies, I'd be fine with that. I can take PDFs, Word 2007 and older, MS Publisher 2003 or older, and Open Office. CutePDF is a great little free program that converts all sorts of files into PDFs. I've been using it myself for years.And remember that while we do have all chapters listed on some of the current R7 recruiting materials, your individual chapter materials are your chance to showcase your chapter. I've had a lot of positive feedback on the cards I did for the Richthofen with Vistaprint (and they ALWAYS run sales!). Plus, you're not limited to just leaving chapter materials with the recruiting table. I personally really enjoy bookmarks... I'm STILL using the ones I picked up at IC 2011 that the Academy whipped up!Also, I've got the USB photo frame display. I still have all the photos that folks sent me when I asked prior to Shore Leave. If you've got any cool new pics of chapter events between Shore Leave and now, send them along. The larger the file, the better. I'm only limited to the size of the SD card or thumb drive I shove into the frame, and larger photos have better pixel density. If your chapter has a new logo, or you're a new chapter since Shore Leave, please send me your logo as well! I'm going to redesign that display so the logos and pictures are in one file and are mixedtogether. If your chapter has artwork of your ship, that would be REALLY awesome, too! I think it worked out better as it is now chock full ofinfo from my fellow staffers. I’d like to think 2013 will be a better year butalready it has presented some new challenges and a few obstacles and not justfor me. Jeff Victor talked about the Regional Conference. The conference is October 19-21st. We will have quite a few panels. Registration is still $15 until the end of the month. Hotel reservations are still available. Friday night will be a Mixer in Wayne's room. Dinner Saturday night will be at Red Hot And Blue. The Command Staff will be running the Regional Conference in 2013, since no bids came in for it. If you are interested inrunning the Conference in 2014, the guidelines are on the website.

B - Received a total of $135 in Registration Fees during the month of June 2012 for the upcoming Region 7 Conference in October. (This was for nine registrations.)II - Expenses A - A check for $259 was issued for R7 Plaques, in June 2012. B - PayPal Fees which resulted from the Registration Fees that were deposited came to $6.III - Financial Status Net Results A - As of June 30, 2012, Starfleet - Region 7's bank balance is now at $876 at PNC Bank. B - A box of ink jets will be mailed during the month of August 2012 to Empties4Cash.com. C - Since May 2005, we've received $425 from Empties4Cash.com for 321 qualified ink jet and laser toner cartridges.
The Floor was opened to the various chapters for announcements from their chapters. Gary Ensey announced that their chapter is having a raffle this weekend for their charity. Karen Carothers has ribbons that she is selling for charity. The Richthofen is hosting a trip to Gettysburg. The Susquehannock is having a party Saturday at the Convention. They are also working on various charities. The Abraham Lincoln had anactivity with a local Baseball team.

Beryl performed the role call of chapters of Region 7Wayne read the Financial report from Mike Stein.Joe gave a report about Communications.Mike Allen gave the Recruiting report. Karen Mitchell Carothers has joined the Recruiting Department.Wayne then gave the Chief of Staff report. The Regional Conference was announced, and details were given. It will be October 20th and 21st. Beryl gave the Regional Awards report. Regional awards will be opening Monday, February 20th. Award nominations will end on April 1st. Beryl showed what the Awards page looks like, via a printed copy. She also explained what she is looking for in the Awards nomination page. She will not accept nominations submitted in any way other than the Web page. We have launched one new chapter, the USS Robert E Lee, the CO is LGEN Larry Neigut. Wayne thanked all for filing the reports this month on time. Bid period for Regional Conference is going on currently.Upcoming events include ICON and Shore Leave. The election for Regional Coordinator will be in May. Joe gave the Marine Report. Beryl and Joe gave the Reporting Certificates to those who had Perfect Reporting.Karen gave out one promotion award for the USS Richthofen. She also discussed the Trek Olympics, which will be May 19th. Keith discussed some of the activities that the USS Abraham Lincoln will be doing in the upcoming months. The USS Susquehannock will be having Sci-Fi day, September 22nd.June 23rd the USS Avenger will be celebrating their 27th anniversary. The winner of the Sovereign Raffle was Judy. This year’s R7 breakfast required extra seats as the turnout was fantastic. The SF meeting was also well attended and much was discussed. From reports I’ve heard, everyone enjoyed themselves and the guests were highly entertaining.IT’S AWARDS TIME AGAINMany of you probably watched at least part of the Oscars last night and that should bring to mind that R7 has its own awards program. Laura Victor worked hard on Saturday to restore service to the SF website which had suffered difficulties. Good work Laura though it is a shame that such effort had to be made to correct the issue. Our R7 Chief of Staff made the announcement in recent weeks and we are looking for programming ideas. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any ideas.KEEPING UP ON STARFLEET MEMBERSHIP STRENGTHThe Region is in good shape with around 579 members as of Shore Leave 33. We did have a few chapters with lower than the required 10 members. We are working with the USS Top Gun which has its membership number but has had some reporting issues which have now been taken care of and the USS Thor, which has been out of contact for some time. Last month we had a perfect reporting record. Lets keep this trend up!EVENTS COMING UP THAT ARE OPEN TO THE REGIONThe USS Challenger’s annual Intergalactic Food Festival returns this Sunday at 1 pm at the Seaside Heights Community Center in Seaside Height’s NJ. Uniforms/costumes encouraged though not required but what is required is that you bring a food item that will feed 6 people or beverages that accommodate the same. This is an open house event for the chapter and will hopefully introduce fans to Starfleet and we are hoping for some media to be present. Last year, the event had representatives from the Richthofen, Pride of Baltimore, and Matrix.” I'm hoping we can maybe double the number of ships represented this year. Don't worry if you don't have enough available crew to field a team, we can mix and match,’’ Karen said.Karen stressed that “I REALLY NEED folks to RSVP to me if they plan to attend. The shelter I have is for 20 people.
